When you settle down with a bedtime novel, media and advertising might not be your subject of choice. But bear with me – it’s worth it.

Author Daniel Price cleverly crafts an explosive tale of intrigue, manipulation, bluff and double bluff in a world where the truth is defined by the news, and the media defines reality.

Publicist Scott Singer is one of the best – a slick PR genius who feeds and seduces the media machine to further his clients’ needs. Hotshot rapper Hunta is blamed for inciting a school killing through his lyrics. The situation is aggravated by a rape charge that is about to become public. Singer is called in to reverse the growing tide of censure and clear his name.

Peppered with clever, eyeopening insights into the murky world of music and media, it is contrasted by the quirky and delicate interpersonal relations between the main characters.

Slick is a sharp and stylish read, outrageous in its ability to simultaneously shock and educate. It reveals the strings that manipulate the news without being self-righteous.

This book is a page-turner for anyone inside or outside the media. I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie adaptation was already in the making! (Nina Faust -- 8/19/04)
